With Apple’s ‘Surprise and Shine’ event just around the corner and speculation of a rumored new foldable iPhone set to be announced, this could be Apple’s boldest design shift yet.

The dual screen device will feature a 5.5-inch outer cover display and a 7.8-inch inner screen that opens up to a mini tablet that is slightly smaller than an iPad Mini. With a wider build, the iPhone Ultra will use a short and wide aspect ration to reduce black bars during video playback.

Apple is using an advanced liquid-metal hinge and shock-absorbing layers to minimize the dreaded “dual screen crease” to less than 0.15mm. Apple has also revamped iOS to function with side-by-side multitasking. The device is expected to command a premium price above $2,000, making it one of Apple’s most expensive iPhone’s to date.

Apple will hold its annual iPhone event on Wednesday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Apple announced it’s ‘Surprise and Shine’ Event recently where Apple is expected to make some major announcements, including the foldable iPhone Ultra, iPhone 18 Pro, Apple Watch Series 12 and more.

The much anticipated iPhone Ultra will be Apple’s first new iPhone form factor since the 2017 iPhone X. Initial reviews have been favorable from users testing the device, aside from the camera constraints and the rumored lack of Face ID. Featuring a book-like design with dimensions around 5.5 inches closed and 7.6 inches when opened, the device will be similar to an iPad Mini due to its size.

Apple will also announce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max with new color options, along with new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. There has also been some speculation that Apple may introduce new smart home devices. This could include a long-rumored home hub, a new Apple TV, and updated HomePods.
